ANN ARBOR, MI – The getDowntown Program has announced that registration is now open for workplaces to join the 2025 Commuter Challenge. Each year, the Commuter Challenge runs from May 1st-31st, and encourages commuters in southeast Michigan to reach their workplaces by walking, biking, carpooling, vanpooling, teleworking, and taking the bus.
“Last year, 65 workplaces and 451 commuters participated in the Commuter Challenge,” stated Lilliane Webb, getDowntown Director. “We look forward to bringing the Commuter Challenge to more workplaces this year and providing leaders with free information and incentives to encourage sustainable commuting.” This challenge is for people who work in the City of Ann Arbor, City of Ypsilanti, or Ypsilanti Township.
Participants in the Commuter Challenge can earn prizes by logging commute trips taken by bus, bike, carpool, and other alternatives to driving alone. Available prizes include a free scoop of ice cream from Washtenaw Dairy, gift cards to local businesses, and unique patches. In addition, several local workplaces will be recognized for achieving high employee participation in the Commuter Challenge and awarded a lunch celebration catered by Sweetgreen.
A representative from interested workplaces should complete the short sign-up form on www.getdowntown.org to register their organization. Registered workplaces will receive support from getDowntown staff to educate and motivate employees.
To participate in the Commuter Challenge and related contests, interested individuals can set up and add their workplace to their profile on win.getdowntown.org and begin logging alternative commutes. A listing of prizes, rules, and commuting resources are available on www.getdowntown.org.
The Commuter Challenge is organized by the getDowntown Program and Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) in partnership with the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority and the City of Ann Arbor.
