ANN ARBOR, MI – The getDowntown Program is pleased to announce that the Conquer the Cold Challenge is back! Participants can track the impact of their transportation choices and earn opportunities to win prizes by participating. The challenge runs January 20 – February 20, 2025.
“We welcome everyone who travels in and around Ann Arbor to participate in this winter challenge,” Lilliane Webb, getDowntown Program Director said. “Whether it’s taking the bus, walking, biking, or carpooling, trying an alternative commuting option in the winter can be good for your wallet, your mental and physical health, and our environment!”
The Conquer the Cold Challenge is one of several programs of the getDowntown program that encourages walking, biking, using public transportation, and carpooling instead of driving alone. To participate, community members log whenever they take trips using sustainable forms of transportation at win.getDowntown.org. At least one trip that starts or ends in the Ann Arbor area needs to be logged to be eligible for prizes.
This year, participants may win prizes from Bivouac, H.E.H. Human Electric Hybrids, University of Michigan Credit Union, and other Ann Arbor businesses. Community members are invited to join two social events during the challenge to build community and learn about options:
- A kickoff social will be held on January 21st from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Pizza House
- A midpoint mingle is planned for February 5th from 8:30 – 10:00 am at Argus Farm Stop - Liberty
RSVPs are requested for both events. You can RSVP at ConquerTheCold.org.
Community members can also tag @getDowntown on Facebook and Instagram while completing certain social media challenges for opportunities to win gift cards to local businesses.
Visit ConquerTheCold.org for challenge information, event details, and winter commuting resources.
